Located at the northeast corner of Finch and Meadowvale roads near the Rouge Valley, Hillside School provides outdoor and environmental education day-visit experiences for approximately 10,000 TDSB students each year.
The office of Friends of the Rouge Watershed (FRW) is located in Hillside Outdoor Education School and we have developed a productive partnership with this excellent Toronto and District School Board facility.
During the spring and fall, Hillside offers participating schools a chance to learn about restoration ecology by planting trees and wildflowers with FRW.
FRW greatly appreciates the assistance that Hillside staff and students provide to help protect and restore priority Rouge Park sites and habitats.
FRW has helped Hillside School to restore perimeter areas of its school ground in a variety of ways, by:
These projects have involved over 500 students in the planting of more than over 2,700 wildflowers, 250 shrubs and 100 large trees.
TD Canada Trust Friends of the Environment Fund has contributed over $30,000 to these projects.
For their successful habitat regeneration work in partnership with FRW, Hillside has won the Bruce Daly Award in 2001 and the Rouge Park Education Award in 2003.
