Children prepare to plant a wildflower
garden at Centennial P.S.
Raking the sand in preparation for planting.
FRW assisted Centennial Public School with the creation of a wildflower and butterfly garden in their schoolyard in the spring of 2003.
Over 50 students helped to prepare the sandy planting bed and then plant over 550 wildflowers, grasses, shrubs and vines.
Wildflower and butterfly gardens provide excellent habitat for birds, butterflies and variety of other insects.
These gardens allow students to learn about soils, plants, photosynthesis and biology, within the safety of the school grounds.
Funding from the Toronto Dominion Friends of the Environment Foundation helped to purchase the sand, wildflowers, materials and supplies.
